In order to make the Ghent collection of dialect recordings also thematically accessible to the general public, the GCND team, together with Variaties vzw and Huis van Alijn, set up a pilot project in 2020, financed with a subsidy for cultural heritage work by the Flemish Government. During this project a standardized thesaurus was developed and 18% of the collection was thematically annotated. On September 15 2021, this project was presented during a symposium on oral heritage.
The project was subsequently continued thanks to a valorisation credit from the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy (Ghent University) through which another 10% of the collection was thematically annotated.
Today, the collection continues to be thematically annotated with the help of a number of volunteers. Currently, 297 recordings can be searched thematically via the website www.dialectloket.be
